Summer Sports

I'm so glad The Child Enrichment Center (our kids' ABA provider) provides sports therapy. We have enjoyed this summer and getting the kids to try so many different sports. On Mondays we do basketball. We were doing it outside, but Garrett's not too good in the heat, and with his history of seizures, we decided maybe the kitchen would make a good basketball court...for now. It is so cute watching my kids make baskets and play catch. They haven't quite caught on to dribbling the ball, and we have to have lots of candy to keep them interested, but it's fun to see. :)
Most days we end up going swimming. That is everyone's favorite. I have now seen each of my kids sort of doggy paddle. Our swimming pool is shallow the whole way, so Garrett can go all the way across the pool on his own. He's obsessed, as noted when he ran away one day, and I found him in the swimming pool with his boxers and a T shirt on. Not a good day!!!! Needless to say, we now have a door alarm that chimes any time the door is opened, and the week we got it, I caught Garrett trying to leave every single day. Luckily, he's figured out that doesn't work anymore, and now he pretty much stays in the house. Phew...
Other days of the week, we do soccer. We like to do soccer at this big park by their coach's house because it has a great playground and lots of shade. Hooray for that. We load the cooler up with popsicles and spend some quality time outside. I love watching my kids do soccer. I remember when they first started and they couldn't really do it... Now, they all can dribble the ball with their feet and kick it in the goal. I'm proud of them. I think this summer has really helped with their coordination, etc. and that will only help in school. Also, how nice was it to have the kids occupied from 9-12 every morning. Such a life saver!
The one sport that wasn't a success was T-Ball. The only part of that day that Caiti liked was the cute doggy at the park. We haven't tried it since, but I think, like soccer, with some practice, they will catch on and start to like it.
